Hokkaido University in Japan hosted a workshop from 27-28 June 2019, together with NORDECO, Greenland Climate Research Centre, University of Alaska Fairbanks, and University of the Arctic. The purpose of the event was to initiate a dialogue among organisations with shared interests at the northernmost latitudes.
Thematic Networks of UArctic aim at fostering cooperation for education and research across the North. UArctic would like to develop a new Thematic Network on Collaborative Resource Management and Community-Based Monitoring. This workshop presented an opportunity to bring the network members together, discuss experiences and develop the new Thematic Network and its priorities.
There is a range of different resources in the Arctic, and different types of resource development. This workshop and the new Thematic Network may not cover all of these, but this meeting was the first step towards forming a thematic network that focuses on capacity development; further discussions will follow.
The meeting was supported by Government of Denmark, Hokkaido University, and INTAROS.
